October 29, 2022

Well, it's that time again ... To let you know about the upcoming Holiday and Storm closings and updates.

Throughout the month of November, I will be opening late on Tuesdays, as I have Physical Therapy appointments.

As far as storm closings, I generally follow the MSAD 75 and Brunswick School closings. They will also be on WCSH 6, WGME 13 and Fox stations. If you have an appointment on a day in question, check your email as well, I'll be sending you a message out in the morning.

     Now for the Holiday closings:

Saturday November 5th ~ my 40th Wedding Anniversary

Thursday November 24th - 28th ~ Thanksgiving Weekend

Saturday December 24th - 26th ~ Christmas Weekend

Saturday December 31st ~ New Years Eve

September 1, 2022

The studio is up and running! Thank you to all my clients that moved with me, all the new clients that have found their way to my door, and to those of you who will. 98 Maine Street in Brunswick is located between Nest and Hatch. Go up the stairs and to the left. Shear Body is the second door.

May 1, 2022

Shear Body Hair & Waxing Studio closed on April 29, 2022. Shear Body Waxing Studio will open on June 24, 2022, at 98 Maine Street in Brunswick.

 February 8, 2022

My hip replacement surgery was rescheduled because of covid. My new date is May 2nd. I anticipate being out from that date until the last week of June. My schedule until then will be the same as always; Tuesday, Friday & Saturday 9-2 and Wednesday 11-5.

November 8, 2021

In preparation for the holidays I want to give you plenty of time to make the appointments you want and need, so here's my schedule.

     The salon will be closed

Thursday, November 25th till Tuesday, November 30th for the Thanksgiving weekend.

For the Christmas break, I will be closing the salon on Friday December 24th at 1:00, and reopening on Tuesday December 28th.

New Years weekend will be similar, closing Friday the 30th at 1:00 and reopening for 2022 on Tuesday January 4th.

Now for the good/bad news. I will be having hip replacement surgery on Monday January 24th. I anticipate being out for 5 weeks. I'm planning on reopening on Tuesday March 1st. At this time I plan to work my regular 4 day schedule, but with reduced hours.

Snow days? I generally follow SAD 75 and the Brunswick schools' closings.

September 24, 2021

Well, that was certainly a summer to remember, or preferably forget. On August 7th I broke my right/dominant arm, and had to close the salon for 2 months.

Though I've not been officially cleared to go back to work, I'm planning a "soft" opening.

Beginning Tuesday October 5th, my schedule will be partially open. Between then and Tuesday the 12th, I have some openings available. I'm hoping after that, my schedule will be back to normal.

Because of my injury, I was unable to make Peach or Rasperry Peach Jam, but I do have plenty of Strawberry, Straberry Rhubarb, Raspberry and Raspberry Blueberry.

The bees were very busy this summer, but didn't produce much Honey. I'll be spinning and bottling what I have in the next couple of weeks. It will only be Harpswell Honey, as I've taken the hives out of Buxton and Topsham.

Thank you to all of my clients for your patience and loyalty.

May 11, 2021

I will be flying the AMERICAN FLAG for my "OPEN" flag.

Please remember I only take cash or check.

There is an ATM in the Lighthouse Variety & Deli (the store next door).

The salon will be closed:

Wednsday June 16th - Tuesday June 22nd

Thursday August 19th - Monday August 23rd

for my annual beach vacation.

JANUARY 13, 2021

2020 is finally behind us, and I think we all want 2021 to be a better year. Hopefully it will work it's self out, as it has started off pretty rocky.

Those of you who know me well, (and those of you I hope to have a long relationship with), know I never like having to raise my prices, but given the current business climate, I need to. It has been 2 or 3 years since my last price increase. The increase will only be $1-$3, and not on every service.

And, to add "insult to injury", after some thought, I will no longer be accepting credit cards after this Saturday the 16th of January. Cash (The Lighthouse Deli, has an ATM), and checks will be accepted. Bounced checks will be subject to a $25 fee, on top of the fee my bank charges me.

Did you know I have a frequent visiter's card? For every visit you spend more than $35.00, you'll get a $3.00 credit. After your 5th visit in a 12 month period, you'll recieve $15.00 off your 6th one.

There will also be a few changes to the services I offer.

I have also lowered most of the prices on the Holly's Hobbies part of my business.

Hair care products are now 50% off. At this time, I don't anticipate ordering any more, as it's more trouble than it's worth. Sluggish sales, shipping costs and delivery times are the primary reasons for my decision. However, if there is somthing you want me to special order, I will.

All of these changes will be reflected on my website, as well as my Google and Yelp pages in the next few days. Also, Shear Body will no long have a presence on FB.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, but I also hope for your understanding and support.

Thank you,

Benefits of massage

Massage is generally considered part of complementary and alternative medicine. It's increasingly being offered along with standard treatment for a wide range of medical conditions and situations.

Studies of the benefits of massage demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension.

While more research is needed to confirm the benefits of massage, some studies have found massage may also be helpful for:

  • Anxiety
  • Digestive disorders
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Headaches
  • Insomnia related to stress
  • Myofascial pain syndrome
  • Paresthesias and nerve pain
  • Soft tissue strains or injuries
  • Sports injuries
  • Temporomandibular joint pain
